Crafts and Alterations is comprised
of skilled and semi-skilled
tradespeople organized into nine basic trade shops.
We are responsible for
the routine, planned and deferred maintenance
and repair of:
- All state-funded campus buildings
- The high voltage electrical distribution
system
- Water mains
- Sewer and storm drains
- The gas distribution system
- Sidewalks and roadways
- Street and walk lights
On a recharge basis, Crafts and Alterations
provides a wide variety
of services:
- Minor construction, refurbishment and building
alterations costing up to $50,000
- Repair and maintenance of non-state funded
buildings,
including the center for Health Sciences
- Custom cabinetmaking and refinishing
- Key and sign making
- Equipment and intrusion alarm installation
(the latter through the UCLAPD).
The Crafts and Alterations unit of Facilities
Management participates
in campuswide emergency response. Members of
the Disaster Initial
Response Team receive training in first response,
fire suppression, light
search and rescue and restoring utility systems
and building functionality
in the event of a major disaster.
